What is it?

You, with a friend or a group can adopt a trail to maintain for the Season. During the season you will maintain the trail with clearing, cutting out poking sticks and reporting with photos by clicking here

Why Become a Trail Adopter?

  • Give back to the riding community

  • Help preserve trail access

  • Improve trail sustainability

  • Ride your adopted trail more often

  • Be part of shaping the riding experience

Most importantly….

RIDE THE TRAILS FREQUENTLY!

Help Maintain the Trails You Love to Ride

The Trail Adopter Program gives riders the opportunity to take ownership of a trail for the season by helping monitor, maintain, and improve riding conditions throughout the year. Sign up by clicking here

Trail adopters play a major role in keeping our trail network safe, sustainable, and enjoyable for everyone.

Program Term: May 1st – Gate Close

Trail adopters oversee maintenance and/or trail builds on their adopted trail for the duration of the riding season.

Trail Maintenance Objectives (TMO)

Once the trail is adopted, the Executive will establish the Trail Maintenance Objective (TMO) for each trail. These objectives help determine the expected level of maintenance, sustainability standards, and rider experience for every adopted trail.

Reporting Larger Trail Issues

Major trail work and infrastructure repairs should be reported to RMDRA:

Examples include: Bridge Repairs, Re-routes, Infrastructure Damage and Significant Erosion

‍ ‍

Shared Trail Adoption

Some high-maintenance trails — such as Police and Fire Games — may require multiple adopters. Teaming up is encouraged to reduce workload and make maintenance more manageable.

Bring friends, create a crew, and come up with a team name!

Trail Adopter Responsibilities

Trail adopters are expected to:

Observe Trail Conditions

Monitor the overall condition of the trail and identify maintenance needs throughout the season.

Maintain Signage

If signs are missing or down:

  • Rehang them if possible

  • Notify RMDRA if replacement is required

Remove Trail Hazards

Clear; Pokers, Small Blowdown & New Debris Obstructing the trail

  • Small blowdown

  • New debris obstructing the trail

Unless a blowdown is intentionally left as a technical obstacle.

Manage Trail Feedback

Monitor the trail discussion thread here and help ensure rider concerns are addressed.

Address Trail Issues

Handle smaller maintenance tasks as they arise throughout the season.

Larger maintenance projects may be scheduled as part of organized club maintenance days.

Ask for Help

Large projects are always easier with a crew. Invite others to join maintenance days or organize work nights through club rides and events.

Trail Sustainability

Water is one of the largest contributors to trail degradation.

Damage commonly occurs when:

  • Water channels down slopes

  • Riders spin tires on wet roots or logs

  • Trails are ridden while excessively wet

When posting trail updates, please include the water sensitivity level of your trail to help riders make informed decisions.

Safety Reminders

Never Ride Alone

Always ride with a partner or group whenever possible.

Share Photos

Before-and-after photos are highly encouraged and help showcase the work being done by trail adopters throughout the season.
